Adopting A New Generation of Fashion

Adopting A New Generation of Fashion

We don't always have the time or money to go away when we have vacation time but we make the best of our time and environment and can still have fun with it. Growing up, my sister and I used to spend a lot of time in the mirror on Friday and Saturday evenings dressing to go out to the club or a party (those were really good days). Now, we're all grown up and are watching our own daughters mimic the same behavior that we did. I watch my daughters and their friends in the mirror on the weekends dressing and accessorizing to go out to dinner, to the club, or on a date. As a parent, it's exciting to watch as more of "who they are" and their fashion tastes emerge. Generation "Z" is young, expressive, and they're authentic. To be authentic is to be free. Their generation is inventive, creative, and unafraid to talk about their emotions and doesn't put stock in what others think of their fashion tastes. They ignore the haters and those that are insecure about who they are. They wear their hair in colors blue, green, and red, and they wear mid-calf and Chelsea boots with skirts and dresses. You have to admit, it may look abstract, but it commands attention and looks good. They are trendsetters and other generations take note. Some senior women dye their hair purple or blue and have fun with it. It's so cool to see them take control of life and ignore the whispering voices that are inhibited and afraid to be their selves. Age should not dictate one's fashion taste. Style relates to the individual. One's style can be as unique as one's fingerprints. When you go on a staycation, have fun seeing the other sides of you and your fashion style by going to consignment shops and/or Goodwill, and take advantage of clothing from decades past. Remember, what's old becomes new again. Bellbottoms, tam hats, tube tops, wide-brim hats, and platform shoes have all come back again. Now add to that, distressed jeans, corset tops, and Chuck Taylor's, and the fashion options are endless. Be confident in who you are and wear your clothes proudly as if no one is watching.

What's your fashion statement?
